One of the most thrilling fish to battle is a good sized snook. This fish will go aerial with a few nice acrobatic jumps. They will try anyway possible to spit your hook out of their mouth. The best times to catch snook are during their spawning months in the spring and summer time where these fish will school up in large numbers near the passes and beaches.
Snook in Clearwater and Tampa bay took a big hit in 2009 and 2010 with extremely cold winters. Snook cannot survive in waters under 50 degrees. These long durations of low water temperature killed many snook in our area but I’m pleased to say that they have made a good comeback and are still biting like crazy.
A snook will eat whitebait, pinfish, grunts, ladyfish, mullet and a variety of artificial lures. Snook are nocturnal feeders so if you want to have a excellent chance and landing one of these monsters then going on a night fishing trip in the summer time is a great idea. During the day they can be caught but sometimes a group of fish will have lockjaw because they had just been feeding all night. If you would like to get the chance to hook into a Clearwater, Florida snook give me a call and we will make our plans to give you the best chance to land one of these amazing fish.
